Cabin in Fairbanks, AK
78.6 miles from Abraham Lake
Unplug from the hustle of modern life with a heated yurt and outdoor hot tub! Our yurt is located in the pristine wilderness outside of the city light pollution where you can view the Aurora from an outdoor hot tub. Snacks, drinks, and warm food to keep you warm; winter fat tire biking, snowshoeing, and sledding activities to enjoy the frozen Alaskan wilderness while waiting for the Aurora to put on it's show. Yurt sleeps 6 if you need a quick nap :) It is considered a 'dry' yurt, meaning no running water and an outhouse for toilet facilities (although it is a heated outhouse, and for here that is real comfort!)

This authentic, log "Musher's Cabin" is a 2-minute walk off the end of a dead-end road. Located in a peaceful, remote, off-grid neighborhood 45 minutes drive northwest of Fairbanks. This is what you've come to Alaska to find... Thick, local logs create natural air conditioning, so you'll always be the right temperature. Awake to birds singing, and fall asleep to sled dogs howling in the distance. Miles of walking trails with beautiful views can be accessed right out your front door - both easy and challenging terrain available. Unique amenities include using an outhouse, and running a generator for power. Laundry and showers can be accessed at the laundromats in Fairbanks. Please message us with special requests for camping gear, extra beds or use of our canoe. Complete your stay in the "Musher's Cabin" by taking a tour at Black Spruce Dog Sledding! Our summer Sled Dog Safari Tour includes a 1-3 mile trail ride featuring 14 Iditarod sled dogs, and meeting this season's new puppies! Check out Black Spruce Dog Sledding website to learn more. Cabin guests receive a discount of $25 off per/person. Tour reservations should be made as far in advance as possible to secure your space on this super popular Fairbanks tour.

House (3600 sq. ft.) in Fairbanks, AK
85.5 miles from Abraham Lake
The space: Wildcat is a three story house on just under five acres. Southeast side facing on the side of the hill. Surrounded by forest and you cannot see any neighbors on the adjacent properties and rarely hear them. There is a dog kennel close by (within a quarter mile walk) that provide dog sledding services for tourists and they’re incredibly friendly and wonderful people. They mush all over in the backwoods and right off the historic Alyeska Pipeline. Hilltop Gas Station is right up the road on the Elliot Highway for an incredible experience eating at the diner there. Best pies in all of Alaska. It is a quiet, quaint and comfortable stay at Wildcat. There is a reason why I picked this place over all other properties in the Fairbanks Northstar Borough. I love it here and I’m sure you will too. Experience my lifestyle for a short or long stay. You will not be disappointed. Guest access: Restricted access is the garage, bedroom across from the guest bedroom you will be staying in and the master bedroom on the third floor. Everywhere else inside and outside is free game unless you come up to a locked structure. Other things to note: You will have access through a keypad on the door. It will be a four digit code. Please lock up every time you leave the property to secure the house and all belongings I own as well as your own. If you like to shoot a bow or firearms, you can do so on the property. It is not illegal, but do not kill any animals unless you possess a hunting license applicable to this state. All hunting requirements and regulations are to be followed. The Chatinika River is down the road on the Elliot Highway or a trip on an ATV down the Alyeska Pipeline (which is so much fun in the summer). Plenty of fishing done down there and ATV trails to ride on. Olness Pond is a great place to go to for rainbow trout and that’s near the Chatinika River. If available, my four wheeler can be used for riding around and enjoying the outdoors. Just bring it home in one piece. The Neighborhood: It is incredibly quiet and peaceful here. The only outside noise that is caused by humans is the highway from the haul road truckers coming up and down occasionally. Otherwise, all you hear is the beautiful sound of nature. The house sits on the southeast side of a hill and gets the most sunlight right over Pedro Dome and heats up everything in the early morning. Incredible view that spans many miles across the valley. Winters are gorgeous and the summers are even more gorgeous. The air is so fresh and clean in the winter time vs. the city of Fairbanks which has the worst air quality of all the United States. Respiratory issues are of no concern here unless there is a forest fire far away that is blowing smoke across the valley. Everywhere will be negatively effected by this. The vegetation surrounding the house is cleared out more than 30’ plus to mitigate any potential forest fire hazards for maximum protection. You are very safe. House Rules: Shoes off at the front door when roaming around the house. Dishes in dishwasher or by hand at the end of the stay please. Garage is off limits as well as the master bedroom and the adjacent bedroom. If you have dogs, please ensure they are within your control inside and outside of the house and any damage that is incurred will be charged accordingly. Animals are not to go on any piece of furniture. If you decide to cook, please clean up the kitchen and leave it in the same condition you found it in. Should you be a smoker (cigarettes, cigars, electronic, etc.), please do so outside and throw away the cigarette butts in the garbage bin. When leaving the property for any reason, please ensure that the front door is locked before departure on your adventures. Other Things to Acknowledge: Pet(s) live on property - Older female Akita dog names Desna. Amenity limitations - Food is limited, but will be identified for consumption by the guests. Recommend bringing food that is preferred. Must climb stairs. Surveillance or recording devices on property - Cameras on front door, garage door, front of house and driveway. All will be on and recording audio and video. Weapons on property - Firearms are secured in gun cases in personal spaces.

Come experience a taste of village Alaska in your own cabin, surrounded by a park-like wooded setting in the Goldstream hills minutes from Fairbanks and the University of Alaska. Wildflowers and berries abound in the summer while aurora viewing is spectacular the rest of the year! Salmon’s Guesthouse has one bedroom, loft, bathroom, living/sitting room, stocked kitchen, freezer, and outdoor barbecue. Winter dog-mushing is available through additional arrangement. We also have a kids play area, trampoline and sledding area. There is ample parking for both cars and motorhomes. Surrounded by nature and close to Murphy Dome, cycling, hiking, skiing, and the botanical gardens, this is a great place to enjoy the quiet beauty of Alaska! You will often see wildlife including moose, fox, rabbits, and ptarmigan. There are two friendly labs who call this their home and stay in their own area. Salmon’s Guesthouse is a peaceful retreat from the hectic pace of daily life...come relax! Your hosts are Willie and Vicki Salmon. Willie is from the village of Chalkyitsik on the Draanjik and of Gwich’in heritage. Vicki is an Air Force brat of Scandinavian heritage who grew up in places like Tokyo and the Washington D.C. area. He is a heavy equipment operator and she recently retired as Principal/Teacher in Chalkyitsik and enjoys creating music and art. They both have much knowledge and experience of life in remote Alaska and are happy to share so that your time here is memorable! In 2010 while Willie was serving as tribal Chief of the Draanjik Gwich'in and Vicki was teaching at Tsuk Taih School, they found themselves traveling often between the Yukon Flats and Fairbanks for meetings and conferences. They wanted a little place to keep their car and leave their clothes. Unexpectedly they discovered this undeveloped property and plunged in with chainsaw in hand while living in a canvas wall tent and cooking over a campfire (the old Alaska way). After the first year they had carved a driveway, homesite and the little cabin you are staying in. They then began building the log house using traditional practices. Willie was raised partly by his grandparents, First Traditional Chief Rev. David Salmon and his wife Sarah. Rev. Salmon was Chief of Salmon Village on the Salmon River who led his people to Chalkyitsik so the children could attend the newly built BIA school in the 1940’s. Willie learned traditional Athabascan and subsistence practices, including the value of hard work! So there is always a new project happening around here whether chopping wood, processing wild game, or building a wood shed to prepare for winter ahead. They look forward to finishing the “Aurora Borealis” cabin this Fall, tucked in the woods down a private walking path from the dtiveway...perfect for viewing the beautiful Aurora so prevalent here in the Interior along with the magnificent sunrises and sunsets. This new cabin, while contemporary in design with large windows for nature viewing will be more reflective of rugged village life surrounded by trees with a view of Moose Mountain along with it’s own outhouse...that means no running water...just like most of the homes in Bush Alaska! Lot’s of fun! We hope you make yourself comfortable in our little “Salmon’s Village” and enjoy this corner of rural Alaska! Mahsi Choo!

In the winter here, we have moon rises that turn the sky violet and that cast a spell over the sparkling snow. When all is quiet you can hear the calls of Boreal and Great Horned owls close by. You may run across a snowshoe hare, ruffed grouse, ptarmigan (our state bird) or even a moose. It’s not unusual to see fox or coyote. It you’re lucky you may run across a lynx. Our house is located in the beautiful Goldstream Valley which is right outside of the city limits, but is only a 20 minute drive from the airport. Its 20 minutes to downtown and its 10 minutes from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. If you want to grab some groceries on the way in, stop by Fred Meyer or Safeway which is on your way after leaving the airport. You’ll have a full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave and all that’s necessary to if you choose to cook your own meals. You’ll also have a coffee pot, toaster and popcorn machine. In any season this is a photographer’s paradise. However, the winters are especially beautiful. Our sunrises seem to set the morning on fire. You’ll see them transform night into morning with colors of coral, pink, orange and gold as you sit and enjoy your morning coffee or tea while looking out of our big south facing windows. As the day goes on, you’ll see the sun travel across the horizon and fade behind the spruce. Fairbanks is also a winter sport paradise. We Fairbanksans take our winter sports seriously. Enjoy cross country skiing right out the back door where you can glide across more Boreal forest trails than you could imagine. Full moons make great times for cross country skiing at night as well. These trails are also used for hiking, fat biking, hiking, winter running and dog mushing. We’ll have trail maps waiting for you. There are lighted ski trails up at UAF and in 30 minutes you can ski at the Birch Hill Ski area. Birch Hill attracts cross country skiers from around the world who come to Fairbanks to do their Olympic training. Downhill skiing and snowboarding is 10 minutes away at Moose Mountain, 30 minutes away around the other side of Birch Hill and one hour away at Skiland. Right around the corner is Running Reindeer Ranch, where you can reserve a guided trail walk with local reindeer. There are also the Peat Ponds, on which you can ski, hike and ice skate. The people of Fairbanks are as warm as it can get cold. People look out for each other and offer a helping hand when needed. People make eye contact, smile and wave as they pass you on the road. This is the sort of place where you can relax put your feet up and read a good book, do a Netflix binge, or ski for hours and then come back and take a sauna. If you’re hungry and want to eat out, you could grab some Thai takeout from Sam’s Taste of Thai down on the corner, or you could drive a few miles and hit Ivory Jacks for a good meal and a good beer (there’s a general store next door). If you want a fancier meal close by, the Vallata is a few minutes past Ivory Jacks. Or you could drive to town and have a world class meal at Lavelle’s or Bobby’s. Other eateries in the area include Lulu’s Bread and Bagels making a proper New York style bagel and serving wonderful breakfast foods. Alaska Coffee Roasters café and coffee shop is also close by. There is the Pump House restaurant that serves a fabulous Sunday brunch as does Pike’s Landing, were you can eat on the deck during the summer and enjoy a warm meal inside during the winter. Fairbanks has good beer. You can try some at Hoodoo Brewery which is in town, or grab some locally brewed spirits from Ursa Major and Hoarfrost distilleries. The people of Fairbanks refuse to hibernate in the winter. We have the Festival of Native Arts that highlights Alaska’s proud Native cultures. We have the UAF Museum or the North, which is a world class museum that you simply must visit while you’re here. There’s also the Morris Thompson Cultural Center, which is where you’ll see stunning exhibits that highlight the local Athabaskan people as well as life in the far North. On the first Friday of every month all the local art galleries open an offer free appetizers while local artists show off their works. Fairbanks is also the host of the World Ice Art Championships. Where people from all of the world come to carve the most beautiful temporary sculptures you’ve ever seen. There’s the Fairbanks Concert Association that puts on great shows throughout the season. We have a local symphony, opera company and theater association. Movies can be seen at the Blue Loon or the Regal Goldstream Cinemas. You can catch a University of Alaska Fairbanks hockey game at the Carlson Center or an Ice Dogs game at the Big Dipper Ice Arena. Fans of dog mushing can come visit during the time when the mushers running the Yukon Quest finish their 1000 mile race to the welcoming cheers of our community. There’s also the Open North American dog races that happen right downtown. We’ll have information for you so you can plan once you get there. Spring and summer in Fairbanks is alight with sun and warmth. Enjoy locally grown produce and handmade wares at our local farmers market that’s open every Wednesday and Saturday starting in May. The Georgeson Botanical Gardens and the UAF Experimental Farm are located approximately a ten minute drive away. You can walk the guards and see the vegetables, flowers and trees that we can grow in this area. All are tended to buy local master gardeners. Free concerts are offered here on Thursday evenings in the summer. Here you can also view the local experimental reindeer population. If you care to, you can visit the Large Animal Research Station. It’s right down the road and while there you can go on tours to view muskox and caribou up close. We are known for our midnight sun in the warmer months. Summer Solstice is June 21 and the sun will be up all night. There are activities to celebrate the Solstice all over town. A fun one in particular is the Downtown Midnight Sun Street Fair. Enjoy some world-class fishing on our many lakes, rivers and ponds in the area. Tanana Lakes State Recreation area is approximately 25 minutes away and there you can swim in one area and fish for pike in the other. Please make sure you have the correct information that allows you to do this legally. The birdwatching in Fairbanks is fabulous. We are fortunate enough to be on the migratory route of many birds that are traveling up to the North Slope in the spring time. In the summer we have the Sandhill crane festival. You’ll see them down at the UAF Experimental Farm and hear them overhead. When they’re flying they look like pterodactyls. You’ll notice many different bird species throughout our area. If you’ve got the chance, drive over to Creamer’s Field Refuge. The hiking is good and the area is a stopping point for many birds. Make sure to spend some time at the Peat Ponds nearby. They’ve also become a place for birds that are on their way to their breeding grounds. Additionally, keep your eyes open while you hike on top of Ester Dome, or you could drive over to Murphy Dome where you can hike all the way out to rock formations that were left over from glaciers. You’ll be able to look over an area in which you don’t see any signs of human development whatsoever. It is truly majestic.
